What’s your favorite box office trend?
You’ve probably noticed that particular themes trend through Hollywood at different times. Two years ago, the cool thing was a gritty reboot; then last year, out of nowhere, it was all about vampires. In the same way, chamber website design also experiences changes in trends.
An example of a chamber that understands the importance of keeping up with design trend changes is the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).
What can your chamber do to stay up-to-date on cutting edge design?
My suggestion is to select website software (a.k.a. content management system) that has separated the design and content from the software. Keeping your website design independent of the software allows you to update the design as needed, without having to change out the entire website, learn a new program or conduct extensive migration of content and data. That way, when the “Hollywood” of web design comes out with the next big design concept, you’ll be able to quickly update your own look.
Be sure to confirm with your chamber website provider that you can change the design without having to alter the complete website.
It is vital to your chamber’s stability that its website software does not require you to uproot your website whenever you need a redesign. Say “no” to relearning systems and retraining your staff!
Next week, I will begin my two-part series on chamber website design trends of 2012. I hope that the upcoming posts will really ignite your thinking about the design/presentation layer of your website.
